The evolution of mobile communication technologies

From luxury, today, mobile communication is considered part and parcel of one's day-to-day activities.

This all began from the 1G or first generation of the mobile communication system in the early 1980s that gave provision for analog voice calls, even though it provided lousy call quality but facilitated further mobile technologies.

The 2G era in the 1990s brought digital technology into mobile phones, allowing them to generate SMS and MMS messages, clearer calls, and enhanced security. This was followed by a very accessible mobile phone, opening early communication between the users. 3G networks came into the play in the early 2000s, which initiated mobile internet and data speed that could support video calls, basic web browsing, and multimedia applications. As a result, this stage gave birth to the era of smartphones with unprecedented mobile abilities.
Arrival of 4G in the 2010s, mobile communication reached new heights with broadband-level data speeds up to 1 Gbps. 4G enabled smooth streaming, social media engagement, and video-on-demand services. This is how high-definition content was streamed out on mobile devices at the break of a single minute, promising a change in entertainment, work, and connectivity. Ultra-fast speeds at up to 10 Gbps; Extremely low latency; Much higher capacity supporting IoT, smart cities, and AR are the features introduced with the current version of 5G. 5G is designed for the connected future and its engines are in self-driving automobiles, telemedicine, and infrastructure. Coming to 2030, 6G promises 100 times more speeds compared to 5G. Near-instantaneous responses can be guaranteed as these devices will allow for multisensory connectivity. As this technology offers AI networks, holographic communication, and immersive experiences, we may see it bring drastic change in the future interaction using mobile. As is apparent, the entire progress, from the initial voice call with the simplicity of an analog message to digitalized forms, has added layers in forming a connected world over the years through every single generation of mobile communications.
